BREED CONDITIONS

Ectropion

Ectropion is when the lower eyelid droops away from the eyeball. This may cause predisposition to conjunctivitis.

This condition is common in large breed dogs which have droopy eyelids which may look cute. However, from an eyeball health point of view droopy eyelids are not good.

Surgery to shorten the lower eyelid may be required if conjunctivitis is present that is not responding to medications.

Breeds that are commonly affected are:

1. Basset Hound
2. Bloodhound
3. Spaniels

Breeding: Do not breed with affected dogs.
