BREED
CONDITIONS
Entropion
Entropion
is the inward rolling of the eyelids. This may cause irritation
to the cornea, some cases resulting in ulceration of the cornea.
In severe cases, scarring of the eye may result.
Surgery to cut and then remodel the eyelid is required in most cases.
Using the operating microscope and plastic eyelid surgery techniques
to correct the defect, minimal scarring is expected.
Breeds affected include
1. Rottweliers
2. SharPeis
3. Chow Chow
Dogs
under 16 weeks of age with entropion can often be treated with “eyelid
tacking”. This is when the eyelids are rolled out and away
from the eyeball by using temporary tacking sutures. These temporary
sutures are then removed after 2 weeks.
Breeding: Do not breed
with affected dogs.
