BREED
CONDITIONS
Lens
Luxation
There are
small fibres that hold the lens in place, these fibres are weak
in some breeds and with minor injury the lens may then be free to
move within the eye. This results in severe pain from glaucoma and
uveitis (inflammation).
Affected
eyes usually require surgery to relieve the pain. The condition
usually affects both eyes, so the "good" eye needs to be watched,
or may even need surgery if the lens is loose. Early surgery gives
us the best chance of saving vision.
Breeds commonly
affected include:
1. Fox Terrier
2. Jack Russell Terrier
3. Australian Cattle Dog
4. German Shepherd.
Breeding:
Affected dogs should not be used for breeding.
