BREED CONDITIONS

Persistant Pupillary Membranes (PPM)

Persistent Pupillary Membranes (PPMs) are strands of tissue that fill the front, fluid chamber of the eye. Normally these tissues dissolve away as the eye develops, with PPM they persist.

Most cases of PPMs are mild; they may result in small focal cloudy spots in the front of the eye (the cornea). In severe cases the vision may be affected.

This condition is not progressive and does not require any treatment.

Basenjis are a breed commonly affected with PPM.

Breeding: We advise not breeding with severely affected PPM dogs.
